A few days ago I heard the news that Hasbro and Fanatics have partnered to bring back the iconic Starting Lineup brand. Kids of the 80’s and 90′ will remember the days of playing with their favorite pro sports action figures including Michael Jordan, Eric Dickerson, Joe Montana, among others. Many of which were likely from this popular brand. So the news of the new Starting Lineup coming back in 2022 will bring back nostalgic memories for many.
Starting Lineup was introduced in 1988 by an American toy company, Kenner. Hasbro later acquired this company in the early 1990’s so many of you are likely more familiar with Starting Lineup being a Hasbro brand.
The lineup of sports action figures made a mostly successful run up until 2001 when the toy brand was discontinued. During the 2010’s, a few sporting events produced a limited set of Starting Lineup figures as promotional items.
Starting Lineup continues to be a popular collectible item with some going for several hundred dollars on eBay and others collectibles websites. Of course, these items are still in their original packaging.
Those that are collectors of authentic sports figures will enjoy this new lineup of Starting Lineup figures. The initial Starting Lineup collection features 8 NBA superstars including LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
These sports action figures are available for pre-order at Fanatics and Hasbro Pulse. Each NBA x Hasbro Starting Lineup Series 1 figure is priced at $49.99, which is much more than I can remember these figures going for in the 90’s.
Items are expected to be shipped December 1st, which will make these great Holiday gift ideas for NBA fans.
